What this service is — and is not

This site provides preliminary business name availability checks and state-by-state naming information. A result that says a name "appears available" means our check found no conflict at that moment in the records we can query. It is not a determination of availability. Only the relevant state authority — typically the Secretary of State — decides whether a name may be registered, and it makes that decision when it examines an actual filing.

We are not a government agency, and nothing on this site is legal advice. Naming statutes, fees, and procedures change; we verify facts against official sources and date-stamp each state page, but the official source always controls if they differ.

No guarantee of availability

Business names can be registered by someone else at any time, including in the minutes between your search and your filing. We accept no liability for a name that was shown as apparently available and later refused, registered by another party, or found to conflict with a trademark or other right. Checking trademark and domain availability is your responsibility and is outside this site's scope.

Acceptable use

You may not scrape the checker at automated volume, attempt to disrupt the service, or misrepresent results from this site as official state determinations. We may rate-limit or block traffic that degrades the service for others.
